The above is a link to Danny Boyle on India
Due to not yet seeing the film judging by the trailer i can see that the film brings out the traditional aspects of the Indian culture. However the movie is seen to be representing India in a negative way the idea of the voice over saying "How can a boy from the slams know all the answers" this could be seen as a stereotype of labelling all the poor people dumb, the idea that he is trying to go against his stereotype leads to him rebelling against his label of not being as clever as others because of the living conditions he lives in. According to SHEP politically it is very American based as the we can see in some parts of the trailer their is a culture clash. Also we can see that the film is taking the historical perspective combined with the modern perspective such as the programme "Who wants to be a Millionaire" is very modern however their is images of children on top of trains and working at a very young age shows that idea of a historical perspectives when their was know specific laws making these kinds of things illegal. Also according to SHEP the idea of economical deprivation comes in as the whole film is showing the very deprived parts of India and representing it all in a certain way however not showing the glamours parts of it. The women represented in the film is seen to be a very vulnerable beautifull women who we see always needing to get saved by the man this links to the Proppian theory.
THE ARTICLE
The article talks about the film suggesting how it only shows cruelty and the down side of India however it is not glamorizing it in any way as the point of it is to make the audience think in a certain way so it could be linked to the film directly.
